It’s VIEable: Feather Pleasure

Prabal Gurung, Ann Demeulemeester, Yves Saint Laurent, Cushnie et Ochs, Douglas Hannant, and Jason Wu, just to name a few, were inspired by birds of a feather for their fall 2010 collections. In fact, the trend seems to be all over the place, from high to low fashion, on jackets, skirts, shoes, accessories, and even jewelry. Feathers such as ostrich, and peacock-looking varieties are taking center stage with the trend, neatly placed in rows or even twisted to take on ornate shapes, like that found in the Valentino Glam Rose and Feather Clutch (pictured above). Taking the lead from some of our favorite designers, we think that this is definitely an important trend to definitely take part in for fall/winter 2010! Depending on your style, you can go mono-color and shiny with your feather assortment, or bold and beautiful choosing feathers that incorporate all of the colors of the rainbow. We hope this trend doesn’t fly away anytime soon!

Lace Knit Sweater

Lace Knit Sweater

I loooove Helmut Lang and this sweater is a great example of why! Taking a classic piece and adding a slightly unique twist, this lace knit sweater takes deconstructed sensibilities and turns them feminine! Buy at Neiman Marcus for (sigh) $265.

Mad Men Style Mod Top

Joie Elvia Lace TopJoie Elvia Lace Top
Joie Elvia Lace Top$198

If you love the Mad Men show on AMC as much as everyone else in America, you may have noticed that designers everywhere are making 1950′s mod style clothing for men and women. I love the look of the 1950′s and 1960′s. It was when people wore hats, suits, and used box shaped bags. When I saw this great lace top, I knew that the Mad Men fans would love it. At first glance you probably think to yourself, I don’t need this lace top what is so special about it. IF you look closely one more time you will realize it is a very special vintage top that can be worn dressy or with jeans. Depending on how you wear this vintage inspired lace piece you will get a different look every time. The white lace version would give you a really vintage Victorian look that you can wear with distressed boyfriend jeans. The black lace top is your evening top with leggings and suede over the knee boots or a great top to wear with a cinched waist puffy skirt for the holidays. I love it in both colors. You have to decide if you want black or white or both. My mother in law recently wore the black version of this top with cream pants for an event and it looked stunning on her. Click the photos to buy the color you want now.

Living VIEcariously: Hardcore Spikes

No matter where you live in the country — from Nevada,  New York, Connecticut, or California and everywhere in between — it’s hard to miss that designers have taken to a hardcore love affair with everything spiked. From leather jackets to bags, stilettos to dangling necklaces — spikes in shiny silver or gold can be spotted on virtually any piece of apparel or accessory you can think of! Rihanna is completely smitten by the trend, being spotted on multiple occasions flaunting the edgy, subversive adornment on necklaces and in her ears. We’re loving both the look of a spike here and there, and also the all-over aesthetic, as seen on the amazing Christian Louboutin Pigalle Spiked Ballerina flats and the Ben-Amun Dangling Spike Bracelet or go for a softer look wit the filed down look of this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace or singular spike found in the Chrishabana earrings. Which spike do you choose?

Summer Pastels Inspired by Japanese Sweets

wagashi-outfit

The lazy hazy days of summer are coming to a close. I’m looking forward to a relaxing getaway at Terranea Resort for some much needed R&R before NYFW. I’ve planned my last getaway of the summer with some inspiration from some beautiful Japanese sweets called wagashi. Many of these sweets are almost too good to eat, but that doesn’t stop me!! They are perfectly paired with matcha green tea. These are the same treats that are served during a formal Japanese tea ceremony, which I have attended. I could barely stand up afterwards because you are kneeling for an hour wearing a kimono. But it is worth it because these tiny morsels are an amazing experience of flavors and textures to your mouth. Here in California, I treat myself when I go to Japantown or to this beautiful (and very Japanese shop) located two blocks from my office called Minamoto Kitchoan.

The folds in the ALICE + OLIVIA Reese silk draped blouse and the Splendid Cotton-blend mini skirt remind me of the sculptural designs in the wagashi desserts as well as the delicate pastel-like hues. Other delicate items inspired by these Japanese sweets for my summer getaway include this Alexander McQueen’s Faithful Medium polished-leather satchel, Christian Louboutin’s Rosella ballerina flats, Pippa Small 18-karat gold green tourmaline ring (the shiny stones remind me of semi-opaque liquid qualities of green matcha tea), and these Juicy Couture Daisy Sleepwear silk shorts are about as delicate as you can get without wearing tissue paper.

Lauren Merkin Launches her Fall 2010 Collection

What better way to usher in cooler temperatures than with a hot new Lauren Merkin bag? The designer has launched her fall 2010 collection, revamping her classic styles like the “Tatum” and the “Juliette” (above), with some luxe details. Studs, suede, jewel tones, snake skin… the clucthes and totes bring a warmth and the perfect pop of color to any grey November day (and not to mention your outfit!) Like this Iris in rich, ruby calf hair…

Or the appropriately-named Bella, a sparkling sapphire gem with just the right amount of shine…

Whoever said fall days have to be dark and somber was clearly wrong. Lauren Merkin bags are available on her website, LaurenMerkin.com and in over 300 locations nationwide and around the world, including Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. You can also find her on Facebook and Twitter.

Shop That Look: Primary Colors

Childhood memories, filled with Crayola art creations,  bright plastic toys, and vibrant-hued clothing may be called to mind when thinking about the primary colors. Now far from juvenile, fire engine red, sunshine yellow, and bright bright blue have taken center stage as must-haves accessories. True, you can always be secure in neutrals, but there’s something to be said about this trio of brights. It was easy for us to find our favorites from a variety of hot brands (Rebecca Minkoff, Alexander McQueen, Rachel Roy, and Rafé) — in fact we had so many must-haves that we had to break the selections into two categories! Fabrications range from the exotic leather look to a hard, shiny vinyl finish, with buttery leather, lacquer, and plastic materials in between.

There’s nothing like a bold accessory in a warm color to draw the eyes, don’t you agree?

Here are our top picks to get the ‘primary color’ look:

The Bags:

Jalda Lamb Paula Satchel

Alexander McQueen Faithful Medium Polished-Leather Satchel

Dooney & Bourke “Venus” Large Nina Bag

Rafé Shiny Croco Abigail Wristlet

Rebecca Minkoff Rapture Satchel

The Jewelry:

G Shock Baby-G Square Luminous Yellow Digital Watch

Rachel Roy Spade Studs

Kenneth Jay Lane Red Coral Ring

Get The Most Out Of Your Fringe With These Lower Lash Mascaras!

Let’s state the obvious: lush, full lashes are gorgeous. But in all your experiments with Latisse and false lashes, and testing every lash-enhancing mascara known to man, you may be totally underestimating the power of your own lashes by not taking full advantage of your fringe! No matter how many coats of the blackest mascara you apply, your applicator could be totally missing out on small corner lashes and your lower lash line, which can add big-time impact despite how insignificant your finer lashes may seem. Don’t fear — I’ve found a selection of mascaras designed specifically for making sure you have equal treatment for all your lashes; in other words, get ready for fuller, lusher-looking lashes without the extra help of falsies or treatments!

For fall, the doe-eyed doll look is totally in (within reason, of course — this is not an invite to apply your blush in garish doll-like circles), so make sure you pay special attention to your lower lash line! Imju Fiberwig slanted Tiny Sniper and Tarte’s Bottoms Up Mascara are made specifically for your lower lashes, with a budge-proof formula and tiny brush to make your bottom lashes really pop without unsightly smudges. If you’re not about to buy an extra tube of mascara just for your bottom lashes, many brands serve double-duty by providing an extra smaller brush for those hard-to-reach lashes, like Femme Couture Lash Detector Defining Mascara and Jillian Dempsey for Avon’s Professional Mascara. For a never-miss-a-lash all-in-one mascara, try Estee Lauder’s MagnaScopic Volumizing Mascara, which has a tapered brush for easier bottom-lash application!
